Van Freiheit |
Van Freiheit (pronounced
"Flyhight") is
the hero of Zoids (both Chaotic Century and Guardian Force). He is the son
of Dan Freiheit who was killed when Van was about 5 protecting
the Wind Colony (their village) While being chased by bandits, Van
discovers an organoid which he found while hiding in ruins, who he named
Zeke. He also discovered Fiona in a chamber behind the one he found Zeke
in. Zeke resurrects an abandoned Shield
Liger and Van is able to defeat the bandits.
Van himself is a good kid, he's hard
headed,
but he is loyal to is friends and has a good heart. Van starts out as being a lousy pilot without his organoid,
but he is a fast learner and will pull through in times of need. Van
pilots a Shield Liger which later becomes a Blade Liger. Despite
what was said in the first episode, van is actually about 15, I mean, does he look 17? It was obviously an translation error
.
|
 |
Zeke |
Zeke is Van's Organoid, and his
best friend. Van named him Zeke after his dad's Command Wolf who was named
Zeke. He is very loyal to Van (like a dog), and will only listen to Van
and Fiona. The two become best friends (the dynamic duo, haha).
As an organoid, Zeke has the ability to
fuse with another Zoid, enhancing it's fighting ability. He is able to perform
minor repairs to it as well. Zeke is
also able to become one with a human, and act as an escape pod if the
pilot is in danger. He is sliver, not white, how blind are the people who
think he is? haha. Van even says he's silver in one episode. Zeke is
the one who resurrected the scrapped Shield Liger that was lying outside
the ruins which Van found him. Later, Zeke resurrects the Shield Liger
yet again, but in the process evolving it into the more powerful Blade
Liger.
|
 |
Fiona
|
Fiona was found in the capsule
next to Zeke. At first she remembered nothing; not even her own name. Over
the course of the show she slowly remembers her past, such as that she is
an Ancient Zoidian. She is also able to communicate with Zeke (who also
seems to hold her memories), and can become one with Zeke to perform
amazing things, such as resurrecting and evolving the Shield Liger into
the Blade Liger.
Fiona herself is a very caring and compassionate
person, and never thinks of herself. She loves Van (it's kinda hard not to
notice that).
|
 |
Irvine
|
Irvine is a mercenary who
happened to find Fiona and Van in a sandstorm and saved them. When he he
discovers Van has an organoid (the very thing he is searching for) he
spends a great deal of time trying to get Zeke when Van's back is turned.
Eventually he stops and becomes his friend.
Irvine is a classic witty, bad-attitude
tough-guy. He is actually a good person though, funny too, and very cool.
he is an experienced pilot and pilots a modified Black Command Wolf.
|
 |
Moonbay
|
Moonbay is a transporter who
does transport work for whoever pays her. She has an eye for money and is
very sneaky. She's a good person though, and sticks up for her friends.
She is a careful planner and does a lot of the plans during their trips.
She also knew Irvine before she met Van and
Fiona, and probably has a thing for him.
|
 |
Raven
|
Raven is an extremely skilled
pilot, probably the best Van has ever encountered (in Chaotic Century).
Cold and ruthless, he does as he pleases and only answers to Prozen. Like
van, he has an Organoid, Shadow, whose origins remain unknown until
later in Guardian Force.
Raven becomes obsessed with defeating Van
as the story goes on, starts out with a Red Zaber Fang, then after it is
destroyed, gets a Geno Saurer. Much of Raven's behavior is caused by traumatic
events during his early childhood (we learn about them in Guardian force).
Interestingly enough, Raven hates Zoids, except maybe Shadow.
|
 |
Shadow
|
Shadow,
like Zeke, is an organoid. Like Zeke he is able to fuse with another
Zoid, and enhance it's fighting abilities. Shadow is Black (sometimes
looks dark gray). has different head features than Zeke, and has wings
on his back instead of boosters, that are retracted when not in use.
He is loyal to Raven, and
no one else, and will only take orders from him. While Zeke is more like a
friendly dog (usually), Shadow is very dangerous to anyone except Raven.

 |
Captain Rob Hermann
|
Captain
of the Republic's 1st Platoon, Red River Line. When he and Van first cross
paths he jails Van and the group suspecting them of being Imperial spies.
He later pardons them and gives them a note saying that they're with the
Republic, and puts them to work as well.
At first,
he seems like an overconfident jerk, but later turns out to be a nice guy,
and also helped Van become a better pilot and has helped the group several
times. Even though he is just a captain, he's the son of the President of
the Helic Republic, so he's definitely respected and well known among the
military.
|
 |
Lieutenant O'Connell
|
Hermann's
second in command officer, so where Hermann is O'Connel's not too far
away. Also seems like a jerk at first, but later turns out to be a pretty
good guy, although a bit gullible. |
 |
Colonel Krueger
|
Veteran
Commander of the Helic military, very smart, and very skilled. While he isn't
the Zoid pilot he used to be, he's a tactical genius and not to be taken
lightly.
Doesn't wish to
see the war become prolonged, but knows how to give the Empire a run for
their money in battle.
|
 |
Major Karl
Lichen Schubaltz
|
One of
the few military officials in the Empire that isn't arrogant or corrupted
by power. Although he dislikes the Republic, or at least the war, he is
very honorable, and wishes to see peace between them rather than total
destruction.
Like I said, he's
an honorable guy, and respects his opponents and his own men. Knows his
limits in battle, and will reluctantly follow orders from Prozen, even
though he dislikes him.
|
 |
Marcus
|
Completely
the opposite of Schubaltz. he's a total suck-up to Prozen, and will do
what he has to to look better than Schubaltz. He is both arrogant and in a
way ignorant, and reluctant to listen to Schubaltz's advisories. This ends
up being his demise, when his ambitions took him into the Mount Osa base,
as it was erupting. |
 |
Prozen
|
The
only person more evil then Raven is the guy who raised him. Prozn is the
most ambitious character in the Chaotic Century. he has done a lot of scheming
to get to where he is now. Arrogant, but very cunning, he cleverly makes
it look like the prince was killed, making him emperor, all the while
having Raven reek havoc in Republican territory. His ultimate plan is to
use the Resurrected Death Saurer to rule the planet. |
 |
Lieutenant
Hardin
|
Prozen's
right hand uh woman. Blindly loyal to him and will do anything for him.
Not too bright though, as her bad decisions end up getting her killed. |
 |
Major Ford
|
Colonel Krueger's
second in command. Nice guy. Although we see him a lot, we never see him
really do much. |
 |
President Camford
|
The
President of the Helic Republic, her goal is to end the war between
the Empire and the Republic, and for peace.
Smart, and tough,
but also understanding, she takes her responsibilities very seriously and
will do what it takes to ensure the safety of the Republic. She is the
mother of Hermann (that's why he is so well known and respected). Long
time friend of Dr. D as well.
|
 |
Rudolf Gerhard Zeppellin III
|
He's probably only
about 12 or 13, nevertheless he still knows his duties and is very mature
when he needs to be. He is kidnapped by Rosso shortly after the Emperor's
death, before he can officially take the thrown. This actually ends up
saving his life as he was kidnapped that same day Prozen had hired assassins
to kill Rudolf. Soon after he meets up with Van's group and after Raven
kills (or so it would seem) Rosso and Viola, they decide to help him get
back to the Empire before Prozen is made Emperor.
He's a good kid, with no
intentions of violence towards the Republic (unlike most Imperial politicians).
In fact he was the one who called a cease fire. Starts out like your
typical prince, very formal etc. but loosens up over the course of his
journey with Van and the gang.
|
 |
Prime Minister
Homaleff
|
Sorta
like Rudolf's guardian, as well as his political
voice of influence. Is very loyal and actually a pretty nice guy. Never
trusted Prozen, and didn't really believe Prozen's alibi that Rudolf was
killed by the Republicans. |
 |
Dr. D
|
Yeah I know, he looks like a
goof and a nutcase, and in many ways he is, be he's also a genius. Once
worked for the Republican Army, Dr. D is now retired. He enjoys hanging
around with the group, and though he is often a pain, his wisdom and
knowledge of Zoids, in addition to the fact he seems to know people in
high places, has come in handy for the group on more than one
occasion. |
 |
Rosso
|
Leader
of the Desert Alcavaledo Gang, who was once a soldier for the Empire, but
decided being a mercenary was better. Him and his gang had be terrorizing
a village until van and Irvine came and kicked their butts. Swore he would
get revenge and get Zeke. He had also been hired by Marcus to start up the
battle at Red River, but when the Imperial forces lost, Marcus blamed it
on him and sent the military after him. He allowed himself to be captured,
and disbanded the gang. Later Viola and a few other members broke him out
of jail, then they hatched a plan to kidnap Rudolf for ransom. After Rosso
discovered that Rudolf was actually going to be assassinated,
and that he had saved him, he began to take a shine to him. Asked Van to
take care of Rudolf while he tried to ward off Raven's new Geno Saurer as
long as he could, knowing well he would probably die.
As it turns out
he didn't die, and became one of the good guys, piloting the new Storm
Sworder along with Viola under the flag of the Republic. Watches out for
Van now, rather than trying to kill him, and looks after Rudolf under the
identity of Airobolonet (sp?), and Baron. Originally pilots a Red
Horn, then an Iron Kong, the a Storm Sworder.
|
 |
Viola
|
Member
of the Desert Alcavaledo Gang, most likely the Second in Command. Formerly
an officer in the Empire. Skilled pilot, very clever, and can be quite
ruthless. However, she has a huge soft pot for Rosso, and was heartbroken
when he was captured. Swore revenge on Van. A skilled pilot that piloted a
Redler before it was destroyed by Raven. Was thought to have died in the
Iron Kong with Rosso, but didn't. She undergoes a change of heart like
Rosso, and now pilots a Storm Sworder with him..
She has a younger
sister, Rosa, who lives in the Mount Isolina Village where they grew up.
|
 |
Bull
|
Young,
cocky rookie who happened to find an old Guysack, and decided to use Van
as target practice, but ran into trouble when Zeke blasted him through 6
or 7 walls. Member of Rosso's gang. We don't see him after Rosso orders
the gang disbanded. |
 |
Welda
|
Sleazy
kinda guy, had an eye for Maria. Pilots a Molga. Member of the Desert
Alcavaledo Gang. |
 |
Jarro
|
Quiet
guy, not much of a talker, has piloted a stolen Pteras, though he usually
pilots a Molga. Member of the Desert Alcavaledo Gang. |
 |
Nero

Bianco
|
The other two
members of Rosso's gang. They were both with Bull when he went up
against Van. Experienced mercenaries
who pilot desert Command Wolves, but both times they fought Van they
lost. We don't see them again after the gang is disbanded. |
 |
Stinger
|
Known as
"The Fisherman", he's very
skilled, cunning, well informed, and deceitful mercenary. Manipulates
people to get what he wants. He forcibly joins Metlenick's assassin team.
However his plan was not to work with them to kill Rudolf, but to get a
hold of Van's Organoid (Zeke, duh).
A pretty boy on
the outside, pure evil on the inside. He pilots a custom red Guysack, and
a custom Zaber Fang (Zaber Fang Stinger Special). The Zaber is armed to
the teeth and is pretty cool, except that it's pink!
|
 |
Rosa
|
Rosa (right) is Viola's younger
sister. Lives in the Mount Isolina Village where her sister Viola
grew up. has the strange ability to see into people's hearts. It is said
by the village Elder that she will loose it with time and leave the
village like her sister did. Very sweet girl, innocent too, probably
around Van's age. Pilots
a Gordos |
 |
Maria
|
Maria
(left) is Van's older sister. We
see her during the first few episodes of Zoids Chaotic Century, and again
during the first episode of Zoids Guardian Force. Very, sweet, though
easily startled (especially by Zeke). She's probably about 17. |
 |
Leon |
We see him about the same amount
of times we see Maria. Used to be a military doctor for the Republic,
worked with Van's dad, Major Dan Freiheit. Now
is the priest at the Wind Colony. |
